Location
This quality accommodation occupies a fantastic location in Romania. It lies directly on the slopes of a mountain in the picturesque village of Bran, where the famous castle of Count Dracula is located. From the house and veranda you can enjoy an unrestricted view as far as Brasov (approximately 25 km). The view from the house of the snow capped ridge of Piatra Craiului and the peaks of the Bucegi Mountains is truly breathtaking. The villa is situated at one end of a challenging and unpaved road.
Bran is a pleasant tourist town, famous for its castle, surrounded by the beautiful and unspoilt nature of the Piatra Craiului National Park. The forests here still contain wild bears, wolves and lynxes. Led by experienced English speaking guides, you can take wonderful walking safaris through the area. This is also a paradise for mountain bikers and mountaineers. In winter, you can ski at nearby resorts. Just outside the village there is a small piste, but the famous ski resort of Poiana Brasov is within 30 minutes by car.

Surroundings
Bran lies on the southern border of Transylvania, the outer limit of the former Austro-Hungarian Empire. This area was witness to much fighting, chiefly against the invading Turks and Tatars. In the 12th and 13th centuries, numerous Saxon colonists settled in the area at the invitation of the Hungarian kings. Their task was to cultivate the land and defend its borders. The influence of the hardworking Saxons is still clearly visible as this part of Romania is today undoubtedly the most developed and prosperous. The area is dotted with castles, walled cities and fortified churches. In the famous walled churches the public sought safety against the invading Turks. The churches and castles are well-preserved and open to visitors to Transylvania. They should definitely not be missed! - Brasov is the main town in this region. It is also one of the finest Saxon cities in Transylvania. Brasov, next to Bucharest, is a permanent magnet for foreign tourists. The town has been nicely restored and happily the medieval city center is free of massive, bombastic concrete buildings. At one time, German was spoken here (still officially called Brasov Kronstadt) and there is still a large German community, with its own schools and newspapers. The German influence is clearly reflected in the modern, swinging Brasov with its numerous shops, restaurants and nightlife. -
The scenery in this part of the country is unspoiled and simply breathtaking - vast high plains to the north and the rugged high peaks and ski resorts of the Carpathian Mountains (the Romanian Alps) to the south. There is an extensive network of cross-country trails and beautiful ski resorts such as Piona Brasov, Predeal and Sinaia (an ancient royal city). National parks such as Piatra Craiului allow you to see unspoiled nature areas with a rich and unique wildlife. Romania is one of the last places in Europe where you can find wild bears, wolves and lynx. It's a paradise for those who love romance and adventure. -
Bran itself is famous for its castle. According to tradition, the cruel ruler Vlad Tepes (who was the model for the fictional character of Bram Stoker’s Dracula) lived here. Inaccessible from the outside, the inside of this romantic castle is open to the public. It is a national monument and belongs to the former Romanian royal family. It is on the top ten of the world's most expensive private castles. Around the castle there is a lot of tourist facilities, including restaurants, bars and markets. -

South of Bran the road climbs steeply into the Carpathians and offers spectacular views. Here lie the highest villages in Romania: Magura and Pestera. It's hard to imagine what life at these high elevations and solitude is like (especially in winter when everything is completely covered with snow). It has been a place of peasants, who have lived here for generations, and a few stray foreigners, such as a famous English writer.
